CD4+ cells, also known as Helper T cells are lymphocytes (WBCs) that form a crucial component of our immune system.
CD4 test is done mainly in PLHIV to check the immune status of the individual. A healthy CD4 count, more than 500 cells/uL implies good immunity. This is generally interpreted along with Viral Load test. This is not a diagnostic test for HIV.


CD8 cells are sub-population of T lymphocyte cells. These cells mediate cytotoxic-suppressor activity. An increase in the number of CD8+ cells is observed in HIV infection. CD8 cells also kill cancer cells and other invaders.


CD3 + CD4+ counts are used to characterize and monitor some forms of immunodeficiency and autoimmune diseases.
