Q: What is Urinary Tract Infection?

Excretion, an important function of the body wherein the toxins and other waste products are filtered from the blood and expelled out, is performed by the urinary tract. The organs constituting the tract include kidneys, bladder, ureters and urethra and thus, any infection affecting these structures is known as urinary tract infection or UTI.
When bacteria such as E.coli, Chlamydia etc attack and grow in the tract, UTI ensues. Though mostly women tend to have UTI, men with diabetes, kidney stones, enlarged prostate, poor hygiene, urinary blockage, use of spermicidal creams, history of any urinary tract procedure are more prone to develop this infection.
