A vast majority of females experience this at some point in their lives.But if the itching is severe and continues for a long time, medical help should be sought.<\/p>\n<p><u>Common Causes of vaginal itching<\/u>&#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Bacterial vaginosis\u00a0<\/u>:\u00a0When the healthy good vaginal bacteria is destroyed by harmful bacteria, bacterial vaginosis can occur which causes itching. This is usually accompanied by foul smelling, white <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drsafehands.com\/services\/female-clinic\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.drsafehands.com\/services\/female-clinic\">vaginal discharge<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><u>Yeast infection\u00a0<\/u>:\u00a0Yeast or Candida infection is also a very common condition affecting females of all ages. The symptoms include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drsafehands.com\/services\/female-clinic\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.drsafehands.com\/services\/female-clinic\">vaginal itching<\/a>, thick white discharge and occasional burning.<\/li>\n<li><u>Irritants or chemicals\u00a0<\/u>:\u00a0Applying deodorants, ointments, douches, soaps or using scented fabrics, sanitary napkins etc can trigger an allergic reaction leading to itching.<\/li>\n<li><u>Hormonal Changes<\/u> :\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Any medications or contraceptives, <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5;\" href=\"https:\/\/drsafehands.com\/blog\/early-menopause-a-bolt-from-the-blue\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/drsafehands.com\/blog\/early-menopause-a-bolt-from-the-blue\/\">menopause<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">, pregnancyetc can create hormonal imbalances in the body leading to itching.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><u>Skin diseases<\/u>\u00a0:\u00a0Generalised skin complaints such as psoriasis, eczema, lichenplanus, lichen sclerosusetc can affect the genital skin too and cause the area to itch.<\/li>\n<li><u>Sexually transmitted diseases<\/u> :\u00a0Unprotected sex can cause a variety of problems and vaginal itching is one of them. Other symptoms may include pain during urination, stinky vaginal discharge, <a href=\"https:\/\/drsafehands.com\/blog\/doctors-interview-pain-during-sex-in-woman\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/drsafehands.com\/blog\/doctors-interview-pain-during-sex-in-woman\/\">painful sex<\/a>, dryness of vagina, sores or eruptions on the genitals.<\/li>\n<li><u>Other common causes<\/u> :\u00a0Mental Stress and diabetes also cause vaginal itching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/69IE8d\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><u>Precautions and Treatment <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaginal itching is easy to treat, in a majority of the cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>As the genital skin is very soft and delicate, do not use any chemicals on and around the area. This includes deodorants, perfumes, douches, medicated soaps , scented fabrics or sanitary pads etc.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Wear breathable cotton fabric to maintain proper body temperature. Synthetic underwear may cause severe itching in some women.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid unprotected sex.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a close watch on your blood sugar levels, if you are overweight\/ obese or if you have a family history of diabetes.<\/li>\n<li>Wash and dry the area every day after bathing.<\/li>\n<li>Dry up the area after passing urine, if possible. Moisture provides the right environment to the microbes to multiply.<\/li>\n<li>In case you do get the itch, do not worry. It\u2019s easy to treat with the right antibiotics or topical applications.
